Count indicates an iron deficiency anaemia.
2. A 35 year old
HIV +ve man has just returned from a trip to the Indian sub-continent. He is complaining of a general feeling
of tiredness, weight loss and night sweats. On examination there is hepatosplenomegaly and hyperpigmentation of the skin. What is your diagnosis?

medical student has returned from her elective in Zambia 2 weeks ago. She is now complaining of flu-like
symptoms of fever, malaise, headaches and muscle aches. She took chloroquine
before she travelled, but did not complete the course due to nausea.
4. A 25 year old banker has come back from holiday in South-East
Asia. He complains of an itchy,
red swollen area on his back. On
direct questioning, he admits to have swam in an area
of freshwater. On examination,
there is a maculopapular rash with oedema and pruritis on the middle of his back.
5. A 45 year old
female has been working for the Red Cross in Gambia. She is admitted to hospital with persistent headaches,
daytime somnolence and nighttime insomnia. Whilst taking a history you elicit that
she noticed an insect bite 10 days ago.
Her husband adds that he has become aware of mood changes in his wife. What is the likely cause?
